West Care Medical is a well-established primary care physician network with multiple locations in New York City.

The Problem

Their network of over 8 doctors, and over 100 staff members across multiple locations required a holistic approach to managing their IT needs. The challenge was to ensure these individual locations could interconnect cost-effectively and share data in a HIPAA-compliant methodology. Their network required a secure, effective and rapid way to recover from any downtime to their Electronic Medical Records (EMR) server systems and have a way to secure workstations from viruses, spyware or any malware that would compromise the security and integrity of their EMR systems.

West Care Medical initially required Xperteks® to provide a managed backup and disaster recovery system for all locations on the network. The specific requirement was to secure the servers so in the event of hardware failure; West Care Medical could recover quickly and continue to see patients. They also required Xperteks® to provide a vulnerability assessment of all their locations and give recommendations on how best to secure their network.

Shortly after Xperteks® implemented a Managed Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) system, West Care experienced a catastrophic server failure at one of their locations. The primary server suffered from hardware failures that required over 10 business days to repair and bring back online. Since this location was protected with Xperteks® BDR systems, this West Care Medical location only experienced 20 minutes of downtime. The BDR system successfully launched a virtual version of the EMR server, allowing the West Care Medical office to continue to conduct business as usual until the primary server was repaired.
During this time, Xperteks® also performed a vulnerability assessment that justified West Care Medical to allow Xperteks® to implement their enterprise end-point security package powered by Sophos.
